The Integrated and Sustainable Rural Development Strategy (ISRDS) is designed to realize a vision that will “attain socially cohesive an stable rural communities with viable institutions, sustainable economies and universal access to social amenities, able to attract and retain skilled and knowledgable people, who equipped to contribute to growth and development ”.

It is intended to establish a culture of continuous improvement in service delivery. The implementation evaluation of the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme is part of the National Evaluation Plan for 2012/13.

The Communal Land Tenure Bill (CLTB) of 2017 was a draft bill in South Africa that aimed to regulate communal land and provide security of tenure. The bill was intended to address the legacy of land insecurity and inequality that resulted from apartheid. The goals of the bill were to provide the right to use state-owned land for community members; register communal land; establish general plans for communal land; provide comparable redress; establish land rights inquiries; acquire more land for communal use; establish household forums for communities.

To provide for the establishment of a Land Court and appeals against decisions of the Land Court; to make provision for the administration and judicial functions of the Land Court; to provide for the jurisdiction of the Land Court and Magistrates’ Courts for certain land related matters; to provide for mediation procedures; to amend certain laws relating to the adjudication of land matters by other courts; and to provide for matters connected therewith.

The Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Bill, 2024 makes provision for the recognition of the Khoi-San; repeals and replaces the Traditional Leadership and Governance Framework Act, 2003 (Act No. 41 of 2003) and the National House of Traditional Leaders Act, 2009 (Act No. 22 of 2009).
