The Praxis Project sought to better understand the workings of spaces for participation and engagement between civil society, political parties, public institutions to test ways to expand these in subsequent actions, with the aim of advancing pro-poor social, economic and policy alternatives in South Africa.

This piece of research forms part of a larger research project undertaken by the Studies in Poverty and Inequality Institute (SPII) to compile a measurement matrix of progressive realization of the socio-economic rights enshrined in the South African Constitution. Towards this outcome, the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI) is appointed to undertake a review of housing policy in South Africa since 1996.

monitoring and evaluating the progressive realisation of socioeconomic rights, and Charles Lwanga-Ntale’s analysis of the barriers to social protection uptake in East Africa. Updates are provided on recent developments on socio-economic rights in Africa and at the United Nations.
